  • Apple unveils iPhone 5

    Apple finally presented the iPhone 5 and its new features and as it was expected, all the fans can't wait to buy it!

    In case you didn't hear the news yet, you might be wondering what is all the fuss about the iPhone 5. Here are the new features then:

    – Bigger Screen

    iPhone 5 now has a larger screen, which is not wider than the previous iPhones, with a resolution of 1136×640 and an aspect ratio that extends to 16:9.

    – LTE technology

    LTE technology is getting popular latel y and iPhone 5 will be the first iPhone that will have it integrated. It will work on Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and in other countries throughout the world. Moreover, there wil be different models of iPhones, according to the LTE bands.

    – iPhone gets thinner

    iPhone 5 will be thinner than the previous iPhones, being just 7.6 mm thin, which makes it 18% thinner than iPhone 4S.

    – A6 Chip

    A6 chip is proud to be faster than A5 chip, with 50% better performance in graphics, 22% smaller and what's more important, less battery consuming.

    – Smaller Connector

    The connector we all knew about iPhones has just changed. iPhone 5 has a smaller lighning connector, which makes previous handsets useless, although there will be compatible devices, too.

    – EarPods

    Earphones are changing, too, with the new EarPods having a much better design, deeper bass, fitting to every ear and every music taste.

    – Better Camera

    Camera is also improved, with the rear iSight remaining at 8 MP, although there is ow a built-in panorama mode that can merge photos into one of 28 MP.

    – Siri is improved

    Siri is more mature on iPhone 5, being able to launch apps, post tweets, Facebook updates and also understand sports scores.

    When can I buy it?

    iPhone 5 is expected on September 21 in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. It will be available by the end of the year to more than 100 countries.

    How much will it cost?

    It is priced at $199 for 16GB (2-year contract), 299$ for 32GB and 399$ for 64GB.

  • Goophone I5: a Chinese iPhone 5 lookalike

    If you are among the Apple fans that simply cannot wait about the iPhone 5, imagine your reaction on hearing that you can get a first impression on it before anybody else.

    That's what some iPhone fans thought when they saw an iPhone 5 lookalike leaking on the Web, which is known as  Goophone.  Well, don't be fooled, this is not the iPhone 5, but it really looks a lot like it. Although Goophone seems identical to iPhone 5, it is definitely not one. Goophone I5 is a Chinese phone from the company Goophone that might look like an iPhone 5, but ironically it runs on Android software!

    Goophone I5 has a 4-inch screen, a 1280×720 pixel display, a Tegra 3 quad-core processor of 1.4GHz and a RAM of 1GB. What's more, it has an 8MP back camera and one in front of 1.3MP.  Except for the Android, the other difference with the iPhone 5 is that it does not have a bigger screen, which is expected on iPhone 5. As you can see from the picture, the resemblance with the iPhone is quite obvious, although we are not sure whether this will have any implications on them, similar to the ones that Samsung had recently. Apple knows that iPhone 5 is a much anticipated product and they significantly count on it for their annual sales.

    In addition, the Chinese market is really big to be ignored and the fact that some people will already hold such an iPhone 5 lookalike might affect their sales. However, Apple is planning a big collaboration with China Mobile in the near future, which might turn things around. For the time being, Apple fans are counting down the days to the release of iPhone 5 and hop they won't be disappointed!

  • iPhone 5 to sell 250 million units?

    iPhone is about to be released very soon, but the rumors keep going about it. This time there is an estimate of the units it will sell, which seem pretty impressive, if they are achieved of course.

    According to Craig Berger, an analyst from FBR Capital Markets, iPhone 5 will sell 250 million units, which will bring for Apple a revenue of $144 billion! And the numbers can be even more impressive, if you consider that Apple has made $50 million from the sales of all the previous iPhones in the US market, over the last 5 years!

    If you are wondering how he justifies his claims abou such a big increase in the sales, there are two major factors. The first one has to do with the loyalty of Apple's customers. When you own an iPhone you feel the need to buy the new one, evn though you might not need it and even more, even though it might not add any impressive features. This loyalty is important in the smartphone market, since Apple knows that their customers will follow them.

    However, it's not just loyalty that could boost so much the sales. The second factor is Apple's intention to cooperate with Chine Mobile, the biggest carrier in the world. This deal is expected in the beginning of 2013 and it will definitely boost Apple's sales in China, which is a huge market.

    Bearing these two factors in mind, Apple might see a rise in the sales with iPhone 5, but can they really sell 250 million units? Nobody can tell yet, but nobody would be really surprised either. We just have to wait for now!

  • iPhone 5 to have short battery life?

    New rumors about iPhone 5 are spreading all over the internet and they refer to its possible short battery life. It is well known from the previous iPhones that battery drains easily, due to the heavy use. However, every year there is an optimism before the release of the new iPhone that battery life will be extended. And although developers try hard to satisfy the customers, multitasking always creates a longer need for battery's use.

    According to 9to5Mac, the iPhone 5 battery won't differ a lot from the one the iPhone 4 had, which might disappoint Apple's fans. Battery is rumored to be with a capacity of 1440 mAh, while the iPhone 4S had a capacity of 130 mAh.

    What's more, the fact that iPhone 5 will have a larger screen and LTE capability, means that battery life might be indeed shorter than what we were hoping. This can be guessed even without the rumors, as it happens with every new smartphone. Unfortunately, the fact that the smartphones are nowadays for various uses, makes them have their batteries draining every day, with the need of an extra battery increasing.

    Until the market finds a way to increase significantly the battery life of the smartphone, we have to deal with the current battery and focus on all the other features that iPhone 5 will have. There are so many advantages anyway that we don't have to be disappointed yet. At least, not without actually using it. Wait until September 12 then!

  • iPhone 5 To Arrive in September?

    Every year, the launch of the new iPhone is one of the most discussed topics between tech fans and this year could be no exception. The release of the new iPhone is highly anticipated by Apple's fans and thus, every rumor is spread in just a few hours throughout the world.

    According to the latest rumors, the new iPhone, or iPhone 5 if you like, is expected in the next couple of months. Although the exact date is still unknown, there are two rumors that are currently spreading.

    The first one mentions a release in mid-August, which means that we should expect an announcement in the first days of August. As you can imagine, it's not very possible, since it is too early for such a big announcement. Apple knows that iPhone 5 is a great income generator and thus, they would not risk launching it very soon. After all, they need to count on the Christmas market and launching it during the summer, would be too far from December. On the other hand, it could be a good idea if they wanted to catch up with the releases of their competitors.

    The second rumor comes from the Japanese blog Macotakara, which had also predicted the release of iPhone last year, that predicts a release in September. Macotakara also mentions that the new iPhone will also have a new look, comparing to iPhone 4S. If we stick to their good sources, a release during September seems more probable than one in August. It is the period when big announcements are made and thus, they need to make a good impression from the beginning.

    And if we want to reproduce all the rumors that are circulating, Mashable reports that Taobao, a Chinese e-commerce site,  is already accepting pre-orders for iPhone 5, surprising us even more about its potential short release.

    So, after all these rumors, when should we expect iPhone 5? Apple is the only one that can tell for sure.

  • First Parts of the New iPhone 5 Revealed

    Apple is preparing to launch this fall the new iPhone and international expert blogs already began showing more and more items coming to support the idea that the iPhone 5 or "new iPhone" will have a larger screen and will be more efficient.

    According to 9to5Mac, which publishes several files exclusively with the first parts of the new phone, iPhone 5 will have a 3.9 inch screen with a resolution of 1136 x 640.
    At least this what sources claim and they are also saying that the new phone will have a completely redesigned interface.

    The news includes a camera / video mode, which is much larger, and a new dock connector. In addition, the images show that Apple will move the headset jack of 3.5 mm above, like iPod touch.

    According to sources, Steve Jobs worked side by side with its engineers to develop the new smartphone. Its release was delayed due to production problems. Apple launched, instead, iPhone 4S (For Steve).

    The new iPhone will be thinner and 20% higher than the last generation of iPhone 4S. According to iLounge, the phone will measure 125mm (58.5mm-7.4mm), 10mm taller and 2mm thinner. The smartphone will feature a new metallic cover, a new screen, more powerful than Retina, and Gorilla Glass 2, which will protects the screen.

    According to Digitimes, citing sources close to Apple, the new screen will use the "in-cell-touch panels", a technology that allows color display above the filter, which will increase the screen brightness and clarity.

    Until now, experts say, color display was done under filters. The innovation will enable manufacturers to make thinner displays, and the result will be seen in phone size.

    Besides the more efficient and larger screen, iPhone 5 will bring a new processor, more powerful, of 1.4 GHz, 1GB memory and will incorporate 4G LTE technology, present on the new iPad.

    In addition, it will come with a 12.8 MP camera capable of recording in 1080p HD, possibly with 3D capabilities, and the new iOS 5.2.

    In addition, the new iPhone is expected to load wireless. The phone will be available in two versions, white and black, 16 or 32 GB.

    According to the information presented by a famous portal in Japan, Apple will change, thus, the launch schedule for its smartphones. If the first iPhones were released in June or July, iPhone 4 S made its debut in October 2011.

    The new iPhone 5 will thus be released a year away from launching the previous model.

  • Samsung and Apple Hasten the Launch of their New Smartphones

    Initially the two companies were placing the releases of their new smartphones in the second half of the year. Meanwhile the things have changed and the new Apple and Samsung smartphones are expected to be launched in the first part of 2012.

    Both companies seemed, at the end of last year and earlier this year, quite convinced that the best time to launch new smartphones will be in autumn. Apple released all the iPhone generations, every time, towards the end of summer, early fall. Meanwhile, the people at Samsung have returned to last year's strategy of beating their overseas rivals, meaning that will launch their smartphone much earlier.

    Latest information circulating about the release date of the new Galaxy S3 shows May 22 as the earliest date for the phone to be available to the public. Now, the Cupertino company seems to also have reconsidered its earlier decision to launch the next iPhone – iPhone 5 – this fall and, according to South Korean media, its launch could take place before summer. iPhone 5 is promising a new display similar to the iPad 3, the next generation of Apple's A5 processors and better camera.

    Displays in both phones are the same quality as both are produced by Samsung. We know that on Galaxy S3 will be mounted a Super AMOLED Plus HD, which could be on the iPhone 5 too. If the iPhone comes with next generation A5 processor, Galaxy has a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and a 12-megapixel camera, compared to Apple’s 8-megapixel camera. Galaxy S3 will also be somewhat larger: while the iPhone 5 is rumored to have 4.6 inches, Galaxy S3 will measure 4.7 inches.

  • iPhone Did Not Conquer Yet the Hearts of the Rich

    iPhone is leading the smartphone market in terms of sales, but smartphone users can also be divided by income: a study conducted by prospermobile.com, shows that the brand of mobile phones most used by the rich is BlackBerry. The study was conducted in June 2011 by interviewing 25,000 respondents.

    According to the study, the BlackBerry is the most used smartphone among users with incomes over $ 150,000 per year. 11.3% of the richest Americans own a BlackBerry, while only 10.9% of them have an iPhone and only 7.2% have an Android smartphone.

    Moreover, the ranking is also the same for users which have income ranging between 100,000 and 149,000 dollars per year. 21.2% of them are using BlackBerry, 19.1% of them use Apple’s iPhone and only 15.8% use a smartphone running on Android OS.

    Interestingly, iPhone starts to lead the ranking of the most commonly used smartphones among users with an annual income between $ 75,000 and $ 99,000. 20% of them use Apple's terminal, while the BlackBerry smartphone is used by only 18.7% of users in this group.

    Android handsets, which are not so popular among wealthy users, seem to be the preferred choice of those with incomes ranging between 35,000 and 49,000 dollars a year.

    The study also shows that BlackBerry users are generally professionals, businessmen or managers and they are not active users of online applications or multimedia content. Only 59.5% of them are downloading applications, while the percentage among iPhone users is up to 85.

    Anyway, this study gets public even before the launch of the iPhone 5, which, according to the latest rumors, will be held in Cupertino, not in San Francisco as happened with the previous generations if iPhones and iPads. The launch will be live on internet, on the Apple’s official website, on Tuesday, October 4.

  • Apple Launches Two New Smartphones in 2011: iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S

    Apple is about to launch this year two new smartphones – iPhone 4S and the new generation iPhone 5, said Mark Moskowitz, an analyst at JP Morgan. According to his sources, iPad 3’s launch would be postponed to 2012.

    Moskowitz said, in a statement quoted by Techspot, the new iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the previous models. Among other things, iPhone 5 will have an 8-megapixel camera and will support CDMA and GSM, but not DNLA.

    However, the analyst’s statements come to confirm previous announcements made by the most important technology magazines. According to TechRadar, iPhone 5 will be launched in Europe, on October 15 within the Orange network. The new smartphone would include iCloud technology that allows user to store online music, movies and other files. In addition, the new iPhone 5 is expected to be charged wirelessly.

    Regarding the long-awaited iPhone 5, it seems that it will have a bigger display than its predecessors and will be thinner. Information seems to be confirmed by the several models of cases that have already appeared all over the internet. The phone will be available in two versions, black and white, 16 and 32 GB, respectively.

    Regarding the iPhone 4S, this would be launched simultaneously with the 5th generation and will be designed especially for emerging markets like China. The phone will bring a series of improvements, but not up to the 5th generation.

    About the 4S model, Engadget wrote that it had already appeared in the internal network of the U.S. telecom operator AT&T. iPhone 4S is basically an iPhone 4 with minor improvements, and those from Apple will promote it through a very competitive price.

    Beyond the expectations for the launch of the new iPhone models, the analyst at JP Morgan said the new generation of iPhones would be rescheduled for March next year, mainly for the reason iPad 2 records spectacular sales.

  • Google to Launch Nexus Prime in October

    The first official phone with Android was HTC Dream, also called T-Mobile G1. After over one year since the launch of HTC Dream, has appeared Nexus One, and after some time came Nexus S. These three terminals are the only Android devices branded Google, although they were produced by HTC and Samsung, respectively.

    Even if there were no significant differentiation from other Android smartphones, they were closer to the soul of giant Google, regardless of the producing company. Each brought a new version of the so popular operating system and along with the approaching of 4.0 version of Android, the company seems to prepare a new version of the popular Nexus series under the name of Nexus Prime.

    The next smartphone from Google will be produced by Samsung. South Korean corporation is going to put on the Nexus Prime impressive hardware: Super AMOLED screen of 4.5 inches with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and dual-core processor at 1.5 GHz. The 8-megapixel camera will have capabilities of shooting Full HD 1080p as Samsung Galaxy S II. Internal storage capacity will be 16 GB.

    The great preview related to this terminal will be the operating system, rumors suggesting that it will be the first smartphone running on Android 4.0, codenamed “Ice Cream Sandwich". Samsung & Google's Nexus Prime could be officially presented during the IFA meeting (September 2-7, 2011), and a month later would hit the stores.

    A launch in October makes us think of one thing: the fierce competition with iPhone 5, which will reach the stores in the same period. It will be a race against time for the long-awaited Apple smartphone versus the new Nexus handset, though if Google follows its usual strategy we won’t see too many operators selling the dual-core handset.
