Ubiquiti Networks Finally Makes Entrance Into VoIP Market

    Ubiquiti

Ubiquiti Networks has recently announced their formal entry into the enterprise VoIP market with UniFi platform. This wireless communication vendor addresses wireless backhaul, video surveillance, routing, fixed wireless broadband, machine-to-machine communications, and enterprise Wi-Fi.

The company’s business model is based on a community concept. In order to improve and develop their products, a group of services providers, distributors, and VARs work hand in hand with the engineers of the company. This in turn keeps the costs down, improves market time, and allows the company to have market prices that are considered disruptive by competitors.

Ubiquiti was recently involved in an RFP involving their evaluation against four other different conventional Wi-Fi vendors and while the company may not offer the same wide set of features as you may find in other vendors, they still provide high quality Wi-Fi.

On your first encounter with Ubiquiti, it is possible to have doubts as to whether the model could actually work. However, its community approach has created a scalable organization model that is very cost effective. The company has only 183 employees, 111 of whom are solely dedicated to R & D.

The Ubiquiti revenues in FY08 totaled to $22.4 million and a whopping $320 million in FY13. During FY14, the company is anticipated to make $560 million. Most of the revenues come from the developing markets.

  • JAJAH Connects One Billionth Call, Promises "Genuine" UC

JAJAH has announced that it has just connected its one billionth call – a 29-year-old woman in San Francisco who was calling her mother in India.

Not bad going for a company that launched just three years ago as a web-based consumer VoIP service and now has has over 25 million users and partnerships with the likes of Intel, Microsoft and Yahoo!

In announcing it billionth call, JAHAH said it was particularly special because it came via one of its partners – in this case Yahoo! – which uses the JAJAH platform to operate its Yahoo! Voice service.

Earlier this month JAJAH CEO Trevor Healy said there is a "sea change" currently taking place in the communications industry – and that has resulted in JAJAH itself evolving from a consumer VoIP focus to become a global IP communications platform provider.

The company is currently preparing a new "in the cloud" Unified Communications Platform able to manage any form of data communication.

It claims this will open up a new phase of genuinely unified communications – something that has been hampered by issues with interoperability and integration.

  • Sipgate Launches VoIP Assault on US Landline Market

Sipgate has launched a free VoIP service in the US aimed at capturing a share of the 100 million users that make up the landline market.

Called sipgate one, the new internet-based service uses a VoIP phone – or softphone – and offers a fully-featured service.

The package provides a free telephone number, no set-up costs and no monthly charges or minimums.Users can also make free calls to other Sipgate users.

Sipgate says it only charges USD $1.9 cents per minute for calls made or received from wireline or mobile phones – which it says is cheaper than Skype’s rate.

Thilo Salmon, CEO of Sipgate, said that other features offered include click-to-dial, flexible call routing, and an online voicemail interface.

Based in San Francisco, Sipgate is a well-established in Europe where it has been operating its "network agnostic" phone service since 2004.

"There is simply no barrier to people disconnecting their old phone lines anymore," he said.

"Phone and cable companies have long been pushing voice plans in the region of USD $25 to $40 per month – which end up being as much as $60 or more with extra charges – and that’s just ridiculous.

"Even with calls to other landlines and mobile phones, most users will spend less than $5 a month using sipgate one.

"And for those people only receiving incoming calls on their VoIP phone, the service is completely free."

Sipgate also announced plans to roll out a multi-user edition of the service, which will target small businesses also seeking to drop expensive landline offerings.
