  • Acrobits Provides Three New SIP VoIP Operators with the iPhone Apps

Acrobits, a Czech Republic-based mobile software development company, has just released their latest white label clients for the iPhone: PLFon, TeleSIP and sipcall.

This comes on the heels of their recent announcement to put renewed focus on creating white label softphones for the iPhone. These SIP VoIP providers are now on even footing with the VoIP giants that already have their own softphone applications on the iPhone.

The white label clients give the providers access to iPhone customers they might not reach otherwise. Though Acrobits Softphone is compatible with virtually any SIP provider, some customers are more likely to use a provider that has their own softphone.

“While techies love plaving with different softphones and comparing VoIP operators, your average VoIP user is going to do most of their calling through one provider. Having your own iPhone Softphone application brings you one step closer to convincing customers to give your service a try, rather than one of the other hundreds of VoIP operators that are out there,” says Acrobits.

Acrobits Softphone, the SIP VoIP phone for the iPhone and iPod Touch, is the flagship product of our company, which is also planning to support Symbian and Windows Mobile phones in the near future.

Acrobits is already working on Softphone clients for other VoIP operators, including Gizmo5.

“VoIP service is a highly competitive industry and VoIP usage on mobile devices, especially the iPhone, will play a large part in deciding who tomorrow’s leading VoIP providers are,” says Acrobits.

Media5 has released a SIP client application that allows the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch to be used as a IP-PBX extension.

The company says the full-featured softphone enables the Apple devices to be used to access the same phone services and features as if they were in the office.

That includes remote workers being able to contact other offices or employees.

Pascal Doré, Media5’s mobility product line manager, said the new release of the Media5-Fone extends its mobile portfolio to iPhone users on the go.

"It offers them the key features needed to integrate an easy-to-use SIP IP-PBX extension within the iPhone," she said.

  • XCast Extends IP Videomail to BlackBerrys

XCast Labs has extended its IP videomail services to BlackBerry devices.

Consumers and enterprise users who own a BlackBerry Curve, Pearl or Storm, are now able to receive video messages from anyone with a videophone or Softphone application.

The SaaS digital voice and video solutions provider also delivers traditional voicemail to BlackBerry devices either as an MP3 attachment to email or via RSS feed.

XCast Labs CEO, Cliff Rees, said that for videomail, the XCast server analyzes the Blackberry firmware and type of device.

It then automatically provides a link to videomail that corresponds to the particular device model and firmware from which the request was generated.

Rees said that analysts Gartner has forecast that enterprises in North America will be supporting more mobile phones than desktop phones by 2011.

While most users will still also have a desktop phone, mobile phones would become more prevalent and replace desktop voice hardware to become the primary device.

Rees said that integrating video functionality with Blackberry devices is a critical milestone for XCast.

"Since the advent of mobile computing, the BlackBerry has been recognized as the PDA of choice for corporate end-users," he said.

"With continued consumer adoption and migration to these and other smartphones, our users will have access to the highest quality video messaging."

Sipgate has launched a free VoIP service in the US aimed at capturing a share of the 100 million users that make up the landline market.

Called sipgate one, the new internet-based service uses a VoIP phone – or softphone – and offers a fully-featured service.

The package provides a free telephone number, no set-up costs and no monthly charges or minimums.Users can also make free calls to other Sipgate users.

Thilo Salmon, CEO of Sipgate, said that other features offered include click-to-dial, flexible call routing, and an online voicemail interface.

Based in San Francisco, Sipgate is a well-established in Europe where it has been operating its "network agnostic" phone service since 2004.

"Phone and cable companies have long been pushing voice plans in the region of USD $25 to $40 per month – which end up being as much as $60 or more with extra charges – and that’s just ridiculous.

"Even with calls to other landlines and mobile phones, most users will spend less than $5 a month using sipgate one.

"And for those people only receiving incoming calls on their VoIP phone, the service is completely free."

Sipgate also announced plans to roll out a multi-user edition of the service, which will target small businesses also seeking to drop expensive landline offerings.

    Other features include:

    • Need to write down a number while driving? Record any phone conversation by pressing *6
