  • Microsoft to Release Windows-Based Smartphone

Microsoft prepares a Windows smartphone under its own brand. Designed for the premium segment, the prototype is already operational, currently being under testing, according to sources inside the company, quoted by wpcentral.com, which reinforce the rumors previously circulated in the Chinese media.

The Microsoft phone is different from other models that run the Windows operating system on the market, being a single product, said a source inside the company, who did not provide information on the smartphone’s features, prices or expected date of release.

The cited person added that the phone already exists as a prototype and is being tested.

China Times wrote on Monday, without sourcing the information, that Microsoft is working on a Windows phone.

Microsoft introduced this spring the Surface tablet, proving that it has the resources to create their own completely new hardware product. The company avoided leaking information to the press shortly before disclosing the tablet. Surface will be available after the release of Windows 8, scheduled for October 26.
Windows Phone 8 was adopted by Nokia, the main hardware partner of Microsoft, but also by Samsung and HTC, which presented their own competing models. Windows Phone 8 phones will be available somewhere in November, after the release of the operating system.

Redmond company may choose to sell their hardware products on Microsoft Store, in order to don’t bother hardware partners, which largely depend on the sales by telecom operators at subsidized prices with the signing of a subscription for a period of time, usually two years.

At the same time, preparing its own smartphone could represent a “plan B” for Microsoft to promote Windows Phone 8, if Nokia’s models will not be successful.

Another possibility circulated in specialized media would be an alleged state of discontent in Microsoft’s management board regarding Nokia’s marketing strategy, which would focus too much on Lumia brand and too little on Windows. This variant seems to be reinforced by Microsoft’s participation at the recent event held in New York and organized by HTC, which showed its Windows Phone 8 models, a competition for Nokia’s Lumia range.

  • Deal Alert: HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE for $99 On Wirefly

The HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE was launched by Verizon on July 5th. On a two-year contract at Verizon, the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE will be available to its customers for only $150. However, WireFly has this fantastic offer for the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE for $99 only. This offer is available for both existing and new users and immediately knocks off $50 from the Verizon offer.

The HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE is an Android phone featuring the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) version. It is powered by the 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and has 1 GB of internal memory. The rear camera is a 28mm 8-megapixel one and the front facing camera is just suitable enough for making those video calls to your friends and family. The camera and the display of this red and black smartphone are not the very best in the market. The display is a 4” super LCD qHD but yet leaves a lot to be expected from it. it features the Beats Audio technology from HTC which has not lived up to its billing to produce great sound. This phone is the third in the Incredible line following the Incredible 1 and the Incredible 2 but does not compare with the other range of smartphones from the HTC stable.

Really at $150 it was still stiff for the users to opt for this phone, but the $99 offer from Wirefly does make you at least to consider it. Some of the other features of the phone include the ability to use the 4G LTE connection of Verizon and share it with up to ten Wi-Fi enabled devices. The camera has a 28mm lens, LED flash and auto-focus. It draws power from a lithium-ion batter pack rated 1700 mAh and can support a 32 GB MicroSD memory card.

  • LG Optimus 3D and Nokia X7: The Battle Continues!

Apple, HTC and Samsung are very popular brands among users, but LG, Nokia and even Sony Ericsson do not even think to give up the fight to attract customers. In terms of smartphones, some would say that Apple is the benchmark, the most successful competitors being Samsung and HTC. But, as past experience shows, this classification does not remain the same forever.

Four years ago mobile phones were the latest fashion, and one of the producers which is now criticized by analysts, was then the absolute leader of the mobile phones market. It is about Nokia. Finns have not yet given up the pursuit of success in the touchscreen segment, which are coming up with the X7 model, a smartphone described as a powerful and aesthetic smartphone, running the latest version of Symbian 3, namely Anna.

LG wants to succeed too and tries through innovative powers to emphasize: LG P920 Optimus 3D is the first mobile phone that can capture images and record video in 3D and play it on display without requiring special glasses. This is definitely a premiere.

But are they offering enough novelties in order to come closer to the success recorded by the renowned producers?

    LG Optimus 3D

If there would have been any competition, then LG would have won: South Koreans were able to release the first 3D mobile on the market. The technical benchmark P920 Optimus 3D is available on the market for around $ 800. In addition, in exchange for that price, the customer is offered more than a standard smartphone with 3D functions. Optimus is part of the new upper class mobile telecom.

    Nokia X7

With the X7, Nokia enters a scene where are already several candidates. Only HTC has five smartphones with 4-inch or larger screens. Large displays’ charm is revealed very quickly in practice. Whether it’s about games, movies or surfing the Internet, those who held in hand a smartphone with a 4-inch display will hardly like a smaller display. Not only playing multimedia content is more pleasant but also writing and editing text with a virtual keyboard takes advantage of the large surface.

The Year in Which the World Divided Between Samsung and Apple

  • The Year in Which the World Divided Between Samsung and Apple

South Koreans have surpassed the U.S. in sales of smartphones in 2011, but the holidays can bring Apple into the top.

"For Europe, the fourth quarter is not marked by the usual craziness of the holidays. Economic problems made users more demanding," said Carolina Milanesi, analyst at Gartner. In this context, difficult from the economic point of view, experts have estimated that in the last quarter of 2011 will be sold over 140 million smartphones. The absolute leaders are Samsung and Apple, while Nokia, HTC and Research in Motion are only collecting the crumbs.

Regarding the latter, analysts are not too confident. "Basically, it’s only about the iPhone family and the Samsung Galaxy family. Only they are flying off the shelves. The rest gather what's left," said a specialist at the analysis firm Strategy Analytics.

In fact, 2011 marked a radical change of the mobile phone market, the third quarter being the one when the South Korean manufacturer Samsung has come first in top sales of smartphones. Apple responded with iPhone 4S, but the results of the final battle will appear at the beginning of 2012, when manufacturers will make the sales stock. South Koreans have counted on the two flagships – Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus – while Apple has had success with the new 4S. According to Reuters, the company founded by Steve Jobs estimates the sales during the holiday season will reach almost 28 million units, an increase of 70% over the fourth quarter of last year.

At the same time, although being leader at the total number of terminals sold, Samsung is unable to compete with the Americans in terms of individual sales. Thus, the Galaxy SII – the most valuable product of Asians – has reached this year 10 million units sold, well below iPhone’s. Holidays will be defining and stabilizing the market position of Galaxy Nexus, the first phone with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and with technical specifications far better than those seen on the iPhone 4S.

    2011 has brought Nokia’s decline

Although has introduced new Windows phones, Nokia is not able to regain the leadership lost in the second quarter of 2011. Although still in the top with the total number of terminals sold, Finns are particularly preferred for their very cheap devices, but that do not reinforce the commercial power of the Finnish producer. According to latest data, in the UK, Nokia Lumia 800 is only the sixth most popular phone. The bad news continues: in the last quarter, Finns’ sales will fall by 31% compared to the same period last year.

  • HTC Failed With the New Smartphone Range – Sales Drop by 30%

HTC hardly manages to attract the interest of users with the current range of smartphones, ending November with disappointing sales – 30% less than previous month. The trend is even more worrying in the context of the upcoming winter shopping season, usually marked by increase in sales and significant earnings.

The company has not explained why the steep decline in demand for its products, but it’s easy to understand: HTC bombarded us lately with many new models, most of high quality, well built, but with an undiversified design, which simply don’t manage to attract public attention.

Sales for November dropped to $ 1.03 billion, compared with $ 1.46 billion in October. Really worrying is the 20-percent decrease from the same period of 2010, when HTC recorded sales of $ 1.27 billion.

Even if it’s too early to compare HTC with Nokia, it’s clear that both companies need to reinvent themselves in order to survive in the increasingly dynamic market of smartphones and tablets.

HTC currently enjoys a large number of fans, but they are not nearly as numerous and devoted as those of some heavy competitors like Apple. In the absence of some production facilities with resources comparable to Samsung, for example, HTC cannot bet too much on models with an extravagant design, through which to seduce its users. On the other hand, the company focused more on services and custom software, but without much enthusiasm.

Unfortunately for HTC, software features such as Sense UI begin to lose their importance as Google continues to improve the native interface of their Android operating system, so that HTC needs more than ever to focus on the product itself and not on additional features, otherwise risking taking the same way as Nokia.

  • HTC Edge – The First Smartphone with Quad-Core Processor

Smartphones market is loading as we speak with more efficient and innovative devices. According to pocketnow.com, Taiwanese manufacturer HTC is preparing to launch, early next year, the first smartphone with quad-core processor!

The first images with the phone have already been offered by an anonymous source, and its probable specs have thrilled the technology enthusiasts. With a 4.7-inch screen, the smartphone has a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, making it by far the most powerful phone on the market. With an announced internal memory of 1GB and with a 8-megapixel camera, HTC aims very high. And because a smartphone with such specifications should have a next-generation operating system, HTC Edge will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Among other features, is mentioned the high speed HSDPA connectivity (21 Mbps) and the Bluetooth 4.0 technology. It is also possible to be launched a HTC Edge version for the next-generation mobile networks (LTE 4G).

Disadvantages of processor with multiple cores
Nevertheless, the latest smartphones equipped with dual-core processors and with energy systems have their disadvantages. First of all, a quad-core processor will put pressure on phone’s battery and will consume its power very fast. In addition, installing multiple cores inside the phone – the internal computer that controls all processes inside the phone – will heat up the system. But there can also be benefits: developers can be more creative and can expand further than they did so far by using some more-demanding games for the system, with improved graphics.

    Officially presented next year
Most likely, this new HTC smartphone will be presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled to start on February 27.

The only mobile device that has received a quad-core processor so far is the 2nd generation of Asus Transformer tablet. The gadget has not yet been officially presented, therefore doesn’t exist any data about its functionality.

  • HTC Sensation XL with Audio Beats

After the HTC Sensation XE, here is another model produced by the Taiwanese manufacturer that comes with Beats Audio. We are talking about HTC Sensation XL, the smartphone everyone says is the Android Gingerbread version of HTC Titan. Its huge 4.7-inch touchscreen has a S-LCD matrix of 480×800 pixels.

We are presenting you a list of specifications for the new HTC Sensation XL.

    Screen: 4.7”, 480×800, S-LCD
    Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8255
    CPU: 1.5 MHz, single core
    RAM: 768 MB
    Internal memory: 16 GB
    Expandable memory: No
    Operating system: Android 2.3 Gingerbread
    Interface: HTC Sense UI 3.5
Photo camera: 8 megapixels, BSI sensor, 28 mm, autofocus, LED
    Shooting: 720p
    Front camera: 1,3 megapixels
    3G Connectivity: HSDPA 14,4 Mbps
    Battery: 1600 mAh
    Dimensions: 132.5 x 70.7 x 9.9 mm
    Weight: 162.5 g

Big phones are not for everyone, and HTC Sensation XL is definitely a big and relatively heavy smartphone. We expected to find the 540×960 pixels resolution on this phone, but the manufacturer has chosen a slightly smaller one. After reading the specifications we noticed they are very similar to another recently announced smartphone, iPhone 4S. The new Sensation has a similar 8 MP Backlit sensor (BSI) and the lens offers an equivalent opening of 28mm.

HTC Sensation XL was especially created for music enthusiasts. The phone has audio output as well as support from Beats Audio. It also comes with a pair of headphones especially designed for it, called UrBeats. Interestingly, when a pair of UrBeats headphones is connected, the phone recognizes and activates a special audio profile.

The manufacturer will include the HTC Watch application that allows downloading or streaming thousands of movies and TV shows.

HTC Sensation XL will be available on the European market starting from November.
