  • MWC 2010: Interview with Rodrigue Ullens, CEO of Voxbone

    In a cozy booth at Mobile World Congress we found Rod Ullens, Co-founder and CEO of Voxbone, a VoIP carrier providing a centralized access to local phone numbers and toll-free numbers around the world.

    Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, they run a VoIP backbone distributed around multiple POP’s with three aggregation superPOP’s in Belgium, New York and Hong Kong.

    The company provides local and toll-free numbers from 48 countries and more than 4,000 cities to carriers, ITSPs and call-centers worldwide. Calls are collected locally and forwarded over IP to the customer’s equipment. Ordering, provisioning and configuration are done in realtime using a web-portal or a free API. Local number portability is supported in 15 countries.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Arif Shahab of Jabil

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Jabil, one of the world’s largest EMS companies, has provided snapshot of the future with breakthrough camera modules: Compact 5MP Autofocus Camera Module and the World’s First 2MP Reflowable Wafer-Level Camera.

    Smartphone.Biz.News.com spoke to Arif Shahab, Business Unit Director for Jabil, who gave us a short overview of the company and talked more about these two important breakthroughs in system-on-chip embedded camera technology.

    He also showed us other latest production of Jabil – the smallest (6mm hight) inventive projector engine for cellphones.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Christian Nyborg from MasMovil

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we met with Christian Nyborg from MasMovil, a low cost Spanish mobile operator currently working with 100,000 clients.

    They came into the market two years ago, competing with big operators like Movistar, Orange or Vodafone but charging half the price.

    Christian tells us how the European Commission has said that Spain has the highest tariffs for mobile telephony services in the world, with the financial crisis consumers have shifted their spending habits and are now looking for ways to save money and maintain their quality standards.

    The company is indeed seeing a shift in Spanish consumer trends and hopes to be seeing a major change in the Spanish mobile market in the next years.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Jordi Serra, Director for Ubiqua

    The Spanish pavilion at the Mobile World Congress held some of the most innovative companies of the country, in this case we met with Jordi Serra, Director for Ubiqua a Barcelona based company. They are a mobile marketing agency and a tools developer specialist.

    At the congress they showed us their latest tool that has been licensing since last year, an online mobile web developer; a very easy to use tool which allows users to create their own mobile web in a question of minutes.


  • MWC 2010: Interview with Colin Shave, Head of Sales for Alert Me

    The UK Trade & Investment office had a stand that hosted eight very innovative companies at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

    We had the chance to talk to Colin Shave, Head of Sales for Alert Me a three year old company based in Cambridge. They provide smart energy solutions which help you monitor your energy consumption at home, therefore helping consumers reduce their bills and their carbon footprint.

    Their technology allows consumers to monitor their home energy consumption and control it from anywhere in the world, all they need is a smart device with web browsing capability. They have been awarded numerous awards for their innovative and pro environment technology.


  • MWC 2010: Interview with Rajiv Mehrotra, CEO of VNL

    Among the winners of the 15th Annual Global Mobile Awards is VNL, an India-based company that won Green Mobile Award for Best Green Programme Product or Initiative.

    The judges stated that selection was made based on the sheer number of people who’s lives could be changed through deployment of VNL’s technology.

    “This is a real breakthrough, with potential, huge impact for billions of people in rural villages. It could have significant impact in allowing rural communities to have access to affordable mobile communications,” they said.

    We spoke to Rajiv Mehrotra, Founder, Chairman & CEO of VNL just before the Awards have been announced.

    He talked about VNL’s zero-opex solar-powered WorldGSM base station developed specifically for use in rural areas where people have less than US$2 a month to spend on their phone bills.

    Watch the interview with the CEO of VNL that is the first and only company to have found a way of building sustainable telephone networks for the three billion people (half the world’s population) who live in rural areas not covered by a mobile network.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Bobby Cha, Managing Director for Inbrics

    During the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona we met with Bobby Cha, Managing Director for Inbrics, a Korean based company that is opening up to the world this year.

    CIS was their introduction to the US market and the MWC to the European market. They have come strong with two star products the Mobile Internet Device (MID) and the SOIP Home Station, both very exciting products that carriers and operators cannot wait to get their hands on.
