  • MWC 2010: Interview with Pete Cunningham, Senior Analyst at Canalys

    On the last day of the Mobile World Congress we met with Pete Cunningham, Senior Analyst at Canalys, he gave us a review on what his impressions had been at the congress.

    Watch the video to get his expert opinions on the devices and apps which impressed him most at the Congress.

    Interestingly he told us that the smartphone market expectations for 2010 and 2011 are very positive, the smartphone sector is expected to grow as it reaches the mass market and more products become readily available to a greater audience. A great industry to work in!

  • MWC 2010: Polystar Presents Test Solutions for Networks

    We spoke with Niklas Thorin, CEO of Polystar at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. They have a test system for networks that tests on various types of possible situations during network development and whilst they are live.

    All major manufacturers use their systems in their labs; Ericson, Nokia and Alcatel. This is a way for operators and vendors to know if their system can handle the pressure of peak calling, like for example voting for American Idol.

    Ola Barthelson then gave us a demonstration on another of Polystar’s services in this case aimed at telecom operators who daily need to check errors within the network.

    Polystar is expanding their product portfolio for 2010 and following new trends like 4G and other new technologies.


  • MWC 2010 : Interview with Peter Rosenbeck, CEO of IDENT Technology

    At the Mobile World Congress we met with Peter Rosenbeck a most charming man who promised to show us magic, he is the CEO of IDENT Technology which is an IP company that works in the field of gesture recognition.

    Peter gave us a complete demonstration on how their technology works, the mobile device recognises when you hand is grabbing the phone or when the device is near your ear in listening mode, this automatically switches on or off the screen display allowing for intelligent energy consumption.

    A most efficient idea which was finalist at the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix and we hope to see available in the market during the course of 2010.


  • MWC 2010 : Interview with Albrecht Von der Recke, COO of fonYou

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we had the opportunity to talk to Albrecht Von der Recke COO of fonYou, a Spanish company that provides online telephony services.

    fonYou’s mission is to reinvent mobile telephony for the internet era, they have developed a service that allows you to have your phone on line.

    The service allows you to manage your contacts and mobile information on line like if it were an email account; it also allows you to record a specific message for your different contacts, so you can personalize your answering machine for when your mother, boss or friends call you.

    They were awarded the Audience Award at Barcelona in the Mobile Premier Awards in Innovation, be sure to keep an eye on this young company that aims to be a world leading pioneer.


  • MWC 2010: Interview with Toni Klinc from Mireo

    Mireo is a Croatian navigation company that was for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

    They were presenting their navigation solution “Don’t Panic”; it calculates a route of 3,000 km in less than 2 seconds and gives you directions according to landmarks which lessens the risk of getting lost and coming into a panic.

    They run on all known mobile platforms and also on PNDs, and are currently available on various countries in Easter Europe, South America, Middle East and Asia.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Jonathan Dalton of Trade Wings

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we interviewed Jonathan Dalton, VP of Enterprise Sales at Trade Wings, the U.S.-based company with offices in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

    Trade Wings is a global reuse optimization technology, consulting and outsourcing partner to the world’s largest telecom OEMs and carriers. They transform cost centers into profit centers through a combination of market intelligence and visibility that extends the lifecycle and utilization of network assets across multi-vendor environments.

    At the Congress they announced the global availability of Trade Wings Re:, a sophisticated solution enabling Telecom executives to implement profitable reuse strategies that extend the lifecycle and utilization of excess and end-of-life network assets.


  • International Roaming for Free? Interview with Arif Reza, Director of WorldSIM

    At the Mobile World Congress we talked to Arif Reza, Director of WorldSIM, the company that was showcasing their Multi IMSI global roaming sim card.

    This revolutionery card enables travellers to use their mobile phone in over 200 countries worldwide and receive incoming calls for free in over 80 countries including the USA, all of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

    In addition, it works in all unlocked GSM handsets and currently comes with 2 mobile phone numbers on the same sim card – a UK(+44) and a US(+1) mobile number allowing travellers to be contactable on either number wherever they are.

    The card is currently sold at all major UK airports and seaports as well as over 1,000 other travel and mobile retailers and travel ports globally.

    Arif claims that WorldSIM can save travellers up to 95% on their mobile phone bill. He says more local country numbers will be available soon as more international operators join hands with WorldSIM.


  • MVNO in a Box: Interview with Han Beukers, Senior Account Manager at COMSYS

    Comsys and I-New where together at the Mobile World Congress in their stand which represented a box, a reflection of the new product they have launched, a complete MVNO in a Box solution. The solution contains everything that a company needs to start its own MVNO or MVNE.

    It is a unique solution, highly flexible and designed according to the new Telco 2.0 definition. They are targeting operators or carriers and currently practically cover the whole world, Comsys through their European offices and I-New through their Africa, Middle East and Asia expansion.

  • WellDoc: Healthcare and Technology

    VIDEO INTERVIEW. WellDoc was a pleasant surprise at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, they are a US based Health Technology company that have developed mobile phone support for chronic diseases.

    They started in the area of diabetes and have developed expertise in other diseases, what they offer is a mobile phone interactive log that contains the patients medical history and a medical information that the patient updates regularly. The system contains tips on health care and coaches the patient on how best to proceed.

    For example if a diabetic decides to have a late breakfast, they can input their current sugar level into the phone, who in turn has a history of the patient in its system and can indicate which would be the best meal to have, 15 minutes latter it will remind the patient to have another check on blood sugar level.

    They have just finished a clinical trial at the University of Maryland, results will be published in summer 2010, and they are currently talking with various countries in order to adapt their technology to local needs.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Gil Regev of Fring

    Smartphone.Biz-News.com had a chat with Gil Regev, Marketing Communications Manager for Fring.

    Gil gave us a live demonstration connecting from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with the Fring Headquarters, the application works on all smartphones and is currently growing by half a million users every month.

    Since the video calling has been so successful they announced that they will be expanding it to 9.2 and 9.3 Symbian platforms. This year they will look to increase their deals with industry partners and work on making Fring even better and more exciting for users.
