  • Leading Technology Companies Announce HD Voice Initiative in the U.K.

    XConnect, Polycom, BroadSoft and Dialogic announced an initiative to promote the adoption of high-definition voice by service providers in the United Kingdom.

    Through workshops and cooperative communication and marketing, the HD initiative is designed to raise awareness and educate service providers about the benefits of HD voice and help them resolve implementation challenges.

    As part of the initiative, XConnect announced that the XConnect Global HD Voice Federation is now open to HD voice-enabled service providers globally, following its successful launch in the United States.

    First to join from the U.K. are service providers Simwood, SureVoIP and thevoicefactory.

    The federation enables the exchange of HD voice calls among all participants, all interconnecting through XConnect’s carrier hub and routing through phone-number lookups via its carrier ENUM registry.

    The companies joining XConnect in the initiative are market leaders in their sectors of the HD voice ecosystem. Polycom set an early stake in the ground through its SoundStation IP conference phones and SoundPoint desktop phones featuring Polycom HD Voice technology. BroadSoft is the leading global provider of IP-based communications services to the telecommunications industry. Dialogic is a prominent provider of multimedia and signaling technologies and platforms.

    HD voice enables users to experience clearer, higher-quality and more effective voice communication through the use of wideband codecs on IP networks. However, in most cases, to benefit from improved sound quality, callers must be on the same network. XConnect says they have established the HD federation to allow cross-network support for HD voice and potentially for multimedia IP-based services, such as presence and video.

    “The U.K. is ripe for HD voice due to increasing migration to IP and the quest among service providers to differentiate their offerings and deliver greater value to their customers,” said XConnect CEO Eli Katz.

    He added, “We are delighted to have facilitated the world’s first cross-network international HD voice calls via a federation – a step that paves the way for global mass-market adoption of HD voice.”

    Explaining why his company has joined the HD federation, thevoicefactory CEO Martin Sims said: “We realise that to compete effectively where broadband is a given, we have to move ahead of the pack. In a business market where many different languages and accents are the norm, high-definition voice will help us add value to our services.”

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Chris Labonne of Dialogic

    At the Mobile World Congress we spoke with Chris Labonne, Field Applications Engineer at Dialogic.

    They are pioneers in enabling interactive mobile video and provide video-enabled engines that support direct IP streaming as well as connectivity to existing and new mobile devices.

    In Barcelona they were presenting a wide variety of applications enabled by Dialogic technology, including Click-to-Video-Call, IVVR, Video Advertising, Gaming, Messaging, and VCCV, Video Conferencing, Video LBS, Video Portal, and VRT, Video SDP VAS with HD Voice.

    In addition, they were also showcasing the latest software for QoE video analytics developed by Dialogic Media Labs.

    In Barcelona we talked to Olga Toprover, Sales Director at Forte IT, a Russian IT company specialized in call center, IVR and IVVR software development that has been chosen as a hardware platform of Dialogic – recognized leader and developer of industry standards in computer telephony.

    At the Mobile World Congress Forte-IT was demonstrating its latest development: IntelleScript Video solution. With the help of IntelleScript Video it is possible to create various services in 3G networks, including Information (Video IVR, Video Portals, Online Surveillance), Social Network Services (Video Help Desk, Video Banking), Video Call center (Video Help Desk, Video Banking), Security Services (surveillance cameras broadcast) and Video TV.

  • Dialogic to Provide “Any-to-Any” PBX Connectivity for SIP Trunking

    Dialogic announced that it has entered into an agreement with Ingate Systems and says this allows them to incorporate the SIP Trunking software module from Ingate into a new enterprise border element designed to connect virtually any SIP trunk with virtually any PBX, to facilitate seamless SIP trunk deployments in legacy TDM and hybrid PBX environments, as well as new SIP-based PBX systems.

    “PBX’s are transitioning from the traditional TDM PBX’s to hybrid PBX’s, IP-PBXs, and Unified Communications solutions creating a heterogeneous TDM/SIP trunk environment and there is a significant opportunity to provide connectivity and security between public and private networks,” said Franz-Josef Eberle, Vice President and General Manager for the Enterprise Market Group at Dialogic.

    The Ingate SIP Trunking software module provides enterprise session border control along with the routing capabilities necessary to connect SIP trunks to enterprise networks and branch offices by employing Ingate’s proxy-based traversal and security technology.

    The SIP Trunking software also is designed to resolve interoperability issues between service providers’ SIP services and the SIP-based systems being deployed inside corporate data networks today.

    Dialogic’s media gateway technologies provide the protocols and interfaces necessary to connect with a wide variety of legacy telephony equipment and networks, both TDM and IP.

    Dialogic says its new enterprise border element will combine the functions normally found in a media gateway and an enterprise session border controller into a single product. “The result will be a solution that is designed to connect virtually any trunk with virtually any PBX, thus helping to resolve the connectivity issues with the heterogeneous environment,” says the company.

    According to Steven Johnson, President of Ingate Systems, the Dialogic solution will open the opportunity of a rapid return on investment to enterprises with mixed PBX environments, including those using traditional PBXs.

    Dialogic plans to make a first set of enterprise border elements available later this year with product configurations offering SIP trunking legacy PBX connectivity via PRI/E1/T1 and ISDN BRI.
