Samsung shatters the price floor on 4K with $1,000 sets for 2014

    samsung-4k-curved-tv

Samsung has dropped Ultra HD bombs with the start of New York CE Week. Last week, they announced new additions to their UHD TV lineup which includes another curved series as an addition to their repertoire, another flat panel in the HU6950 series, the HU7250 series, not to mention a brand addition to its HU8550 series: an 85-inch behemothzz.

The new UHD TVs stable boosts the company’s already established line-up to six series creating the largest selection of UHD TVs in the market. The newest UHD technology including HDMI 2.0, the (H.265) HEVC codec for the fastest 4K streaming at approximately 60 frames per second, and Samsung’s One Connect Box (upgradable) have been incorporated in the new TVs.

    The 85-inch HU8550

This new monster addition to the HU8550 series is actually the small version of the largest in the HU8550 series stretching to 110 inches. HU8550 TVs are considered top-ranked series and provide a number of features including UHD precision black for clear contrast, dimming and blazing color performance not to mention the company’s cutting-edge smart technology. This 85-inch is set to be released next month priced at $10,000 which is $5,000 less compared to the 84-inch LG monster.

    HU7250 series

Samsung is advocating for curved displays as the greatest and cutting-edge tech on Ultra HD TV designs through its commercials. With its new models; the 65-inch and 55-inch priced at $3,300 and $2,200 consecutively, you can say that the HU7250 series is the friendliest priced concave 4K UHD TV and it arrives in August.

Some of this series’ highlighted features include UHD Dimming, UHD upscaling and a Quad Screen Multi-link that gives viewers the opportunity to divide the screen to four parts allowing you to watch diverse sources at once. According to Samsung, the curved design delivers a better true to life experience.

    HU6950 series

This series provides the most affordable way to acquire Samsung’s 4K TV brand. The HU6950 series has three new remarkably affordable models including a 40-inch, 50-inch and 55-inch TVs costing $1,000, $1,500 and $2,000 respectively. • Samsung Already Shipping F9000-Series 4K TVs in Korea

    Samsung
made a recent announcement that it has already started shipping its F9000-Series 4K TVs in Korea. This comes as good news for the 100-plus Koreans who pre-ordered Samsung's 55-inch and 65-inch F9000 TV sets in June.

At the beginning of the year, Samsung released the largest UHD TV in the world, the 85-inch behemoth. In the wake of its popularity, the company has now released the 55-inch and 65-inch UHD TV F9000 series.

The picture quality of the F9000 series is four times higher than that of a full HD TV, thanks to a Quad Detail Engine, 4-step quality image processing technology, and super-resolution. This series is a similar alternative to the 85-inch in terms of functionality, but it comes at a more affordable price. This means you can expect the popular UHD Evolution kit support and the Ultra HD screen resolution, but at relatively modest prices.

The 55-inch TV comes at $5,670 (6.4 million won) and its 65-inch cousin comes at $7,913 (8.9 million won).

  • Revealed: 4K Ultra HD Video Player as "Only Sony can do"

Home viewers are eagerly placing advance orders for a Sony 4K HD Video Player, included with each purchase of its 84-inch XBR-84X900 LED TV for a total "One Sony" experience that incorporates all of its electronics and entertainment capabilities into one black box.

Phil Molyneux, Sony Electronics COO, told us this is something "only Sony can do." Obtainable exclusively with this particular HDTV on a no-cost lease, this is the first-ever 4K player for the residential consumer. Finally, we have the long-awaited details of what the new video player entails. Incorporated within the workings of the 84-inch screen, the 4K player is a hard-disc server in its own right. We'll be among the earliest proud recipients of a specimen model when the product is launched.

The 4K comes pre-loaded with a small collection full-length feature films, including Total Recall (2012), Taxi Driver, The Amazing Spider-Man (refer to press release for a complete list of titles), along with brief sports clips from Red Bull and concert footage. The package comes with a remote controller in the form of an Experia Tablet S app along the same lines as its Movies Unlimited service. Ah, that would explain at least some of the eye-watering MRSP of $24,999.99. This is the first opportunity the home viewer will have the opportunity to experience this quality of 4K video under their own roof. By "home viewer" we are clearly not referring to your average university student living away from home for the first time, but purchasers with the means to acquire high-end gear.

You've got to ask yourself if the human eye is even capable of discerning the difference in quality between bog-standard HD and 4K, or will all but the most well-heeled viewer look at it and see a late model two-door convertible. Kaz Hirai is counting on it. Having invested in its Colorworks digital production studio in 2009, white glove task force dedicated to updating content, not to mention two mega high-spec CinaAlta 4K camcorders (complete with matching prices), we can expect more of the same from Sony.
