  • MWC 2010: OnMobile Squeezes Music into Your Phone

    At the Mobile World Congress we spoke to Mouli Raman, Co-Founder & CTO of OnMobile, who gave us a short introduction to this interesting Indian company. Kiran Anandampillai then showed us OnMobile’s latest creation – the Squeeze device that "squeezes fresh music” from internet into the mobile phone. In other words, it enables consumers from countries with low internet penetration to download music through the retailers without being connected to internet.

    OnMobile is white labeled Data and Value Added Services [VAS] company for mobile, landline and media service providers. They target mobile subscribers who focus on leveraging the convergence between wireless and wireline telecommunication services, media, internet, mobile marketing and content.

    They develop services, such as; Voice Portals, Ring Back Tones, Music Search, Mobile Search, Social Address Book, Phone Back up.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Miguel Silva, CCO of Rubberduck

    Smartphone.Biz-News.com spoke to Miguel Angel Silva, Chief Commercial Officer at Rubberduck that was one of the first companies in Europe to launch commercial off-deck mobile TV and mobile radio services.

    Headquartered in the city of Oslo, Norway, Rubberduck serves broadcasters and operators with hosted and managed Mobile TV solutions that can be implemented around the world by the company’s Global Partner Managers.

    In Barcelona, they were focused on showcasing their Android and iPhone Live TV apps, as they found the best mobile TV viewership works over applications that provide more for home-type of TV setup experience.

    Mobiletech was founded in 2005 by a team of telecommunication, banking and investment professionals. The entrepreneurs saw a need to create a platform to bring the worlds of content and mobile together in a way that would create great user experiences for people using mobile devices to view the Web.

    The company has grown to be a global provider of advanced mobile enabling software and services for major media companies, brands and corporations.

    At the Mobile World Congress we talked to Michael Buch Sandager, CSO Europe, who revealed that Mobiletech has been chosen by Voice of America as the technology supplier of the mobile solution to the famous international broadcaster.

    Jorge Branco, Account Manager, showed us their mobile banking solution that allows you to do practically everything with your bank account from your mobile phone; account information, transfers, credit card information, stock market ect.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Pete Cunningham, Senior Analyst at Canalys

    On the last day of the Mobile World Congress we met with Pete Cunningham, Senior Analyst at Canalys, he gave us a review on what his impressions had been at the congress.

    Watch the video to get his expert opinions on the devices and apps which impressed him most at the Congress.

    Interestingly he told us that the smartphone market expectations for 2010 and 2011 are very positive, the smartphone sector is expected to grow as it reaches the mass market and more products become readily available to a greater audience. A great industry to work in!

  • MWC 2010: Polystar Presents Test Solutions for Networks

    We spoke with Niklas Thorin, CEO of Polystar at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. They have a test system for networks that tests on various types of possible situations during network development and whilst they are live.

    All major manufacturers use their systems in their labs; Ericson, Nokia and Alcatel. This is a way for operators and vendors to know if their system can handle the pressure of peak calling, like for example voting for American Idol.

    Ola Barthelson then gave us a demonstration on another of Polystar’s services in this case aimed at telecom operators who daily need to check errors within the network.

    Polystar is expanding their product portfolio for 2010 and following new trends like 4G and other new technologies.


  • MWC 2010 : Interview with Peter Rosenbeck, CEO of IDENT Technology

    At the Mobile World Congress we met with Peter Rosenbeck a most charming man who promised to show us magic, he is the CEO of IDENT Technology which is an IP company that works in the field of gesture recognition.

    Peter gave us a complete demonstration on how their technology works, the mobile device recognises when you hand is grabbing the phone or when the device is near your ear in listening mode, this automatically switches on or off the screen display allowing for intelligent energy consumption.

    A most efficient idea which was finalist at the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix and we hope to see available in the market during the course of 2010.


  • MWC 2010 : Interview with Albrecht Von der Recke, COO of fonYou

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we had the opportunity to talk to Albrecht Von der Recke COO of fonYou, a Spanish company that provides online telephony services.

    fonYou’s mission is to reinvent mobile telephony for the internet era, they have developed a service that allows you to have your phone on line.

    The service allows you to manage your contacts and mobile information on line like if it were an email account; it also allows you to record a specific message for your different contacts, so you can personalize your answering machine for when your mother, boss or friends call you.

    They were awarded the Audience Award at Barcelona in the Mobile Premier Awards in Innovation, be sure to keep an eye on this young company that aims to be a world leading pioneer.


  • MWC 2010: Interview with Toni Klinc from Mireo

    Mireo is a Croatian navigation company that was for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

    They were presenting their navigation solution “Don’t Panic”; it calculates a route of 3,000 km in less than 2 seconds and gives you directions according to landmarks which lessens the risk of getting lost and coming into a panic.

    They run on all known mobile platforms and also on PNDs, and are currently available on various countries in Easter Europe, South America, Middle East and Asia.

  • MWC 2010: Interview with Jonathan Dalton of Trade Wings

    At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona we interviewed Jonathan Dalton, VP of Enterprise Sales at Trade Wings, the U.S.-based company with offices in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

    Trade Wings is a global reuse optimization technology, consulting and outsourcing partner to the world’s largest telecom OEMs and carriers.
