    Oracle Announces 24 New Cloud Services

    Oracle has recently announced that it will be offering 24 new cloud services. Some of the new services include mobile, integration, big data and SQL, and Exadata database.

    However, the biggest buzz was on the Archive Storage Cloud Service and according to Oracle’s CTO Larry Ellison, this service was specifically tailored to go head-to-head with Amazon Glacier, costing only one-tenth of Amazon’s offer.

    The company’s chairman also added that their platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service businesses were doing really well. This is the same message that was pushed some few days ago when Oracle announced their quarterly results. The move is seen as a push to soothe concerns about the 5% drop in overall revenue.

    Oracle had sold US$426 million worth of business in platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service in the last quarter. “That’s an industry record – no company has ever sold that much in just one quarter,” said Ellison.

    It will be interesting to see how the new cloud services will be received as it is clear that Oracle is keen on promoting itself as cloud and infrastructure provider.

     

  • Toshiba Integrates VoIP System With Microsoft OCS RCC


    Toshiba’s telecommunication division has announced integration of Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 Remote Call Control (RCC) capabilities with its Toshiba Strata CIX family of VoIP business communication systems.

    Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems Division, said that with the integration, enterprise users of Toshiba’s Strata CIX family of VoIP business communication systems can Click-to-Dial from Microsoft OCS 2007 using a Toshiba Strata telephone device.

    He said it is compatible with Toshiba’s most popular IP and digital telephones as well as Toshiba’s SoftIPT softphone.

    Users also gain telephony status information for other callers on the Strata CIX system, viewable from their Microsoft OCS Enhanced Presence screen.

    "In providing an integrated solution with Microsoft OCS 2007, Toshiba is delivering on its promise to expand its Unified Communications offerings by giving customers a choice in how they communicate with their Toshiba Strata CIX VoIP system," he said.

    The Toshiba Strata CIX VoIP system is available through authorized Toshiba dealers.

  • Avaya Announces SIP Architecture That Connects Users, Applications and Systems


    Avaya today announced the launch of a new SIP-based architecture that integrates communications across multi-vendor, multi-location and multi-modal businesses.

    Called Aura, the company said it is centered on the new open standards Aura Session Manager, which centralizes communications control and application integration.

    Session Manager orchestrates a wide array of communications applications and systems by decoupling applications from the network.

    The software simplifies complex communications networks, reduces infrastructure costs and delivers voice, video, messaging, presence, Web applications to employees anywhere.

    Kevin Kennedy, president and CEO of Avaya, said that as a result, services can be deployed to users depending on what they need rather than by where they work or the capabilities of the system to which they are connected.

    He said Session Manager instantly reduces complexity and provides the foundation for broader unified communications strategies.

    "With Avaya Aura, organizations can achieve rapid returns on their business communications investment, while simplifying the development and deployment of applications that improve operational performance," he said.

    "We’ve seen some organizations use SIP routing to reduce trunking costs by 20 to 60 per cent.

    "With this new architecture, for the first time, the way we communicate is defined by the applications and the user, not the network."

    Avaya Aura will be available globally in May 2009.

    The company said Avaya Aura offers the following benefits:
